22.02. Genocide is not film- Performative Action at Berlinale Red Carpet

“Amidst the glitz of Berlinale’s red carpet, where filmmakers and actors typically take center stage during glamorous events, a group of Berlin activists created their own platform to send a powerful message: ‘Genocide is not a film.’ This poignant statement was a response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

As the world’s eyes are fixed upon Berlin, the city’s cultural institutions, particularly Berlinale, hold a unique platform and responsibility to address pressing global issues. Yet, the silence from both Germany and Berlinale regarding the ongoing genocide in Gaza speaks volumes. It is a silence complicit in the suffering of innocent lives, a silence that echoes the neglect of moral duty and solidarity with oppressed peoples.”
