28.02. Writing Names

An event organised by Grieving Doves Neukölln

“We will not stop until the killing stops. We invite you to join our writing session.

Families welcome.

By writing the names of the victims we want to raise consciousness and combat the denial of grief and necessary grieving processes, in relation specifcally to the genocide in Gaza and in general to all genocides. Unresolved grief over time turns into anger, hate and toxic frustration.

When we write together it is also a moment of sharing, when we feel isolated, compounded by fear that leads to debilitating anxiety.

We want to offer a space for people to connect with and reflect upon the unfinished life stories of those killed. It is a moment to encourage others to stand in solidarity and support one another, as a community, in the face of great loss and grief.

We feel it is vital to recognise and witness the magnitude of ones own grief and of the grief of others.

The collective name writing sessions while offering support, cannot safeguard from triggered emotions. Thus, each is responsible for attention to their own emotions and feelings that arise during the writing process.

If feeling overwhelmed at any stage during writing please feel free to discontinue, to withdraw from writing and take some time for oneself.

The list of victims is overwhelming but it is important to also recognize that the lists to date reflect the number of registered deaths, and sadly do not include the number of people who remain unaccounted for:

1. Those who died under the rubble
2. Those who were buried without being brought to the hospitals
3. Those who could not be processed/registered by the hospitals ”
